Day 1 - Arrival in SicilyMay 18th

Individual travel to Catania. Catania is located at the foot of Mount Etna and features the architecture of Giovanni Battista Vaccarini (1702-1768) along with numerous churches and palaces in the baroque style of the 18th century. The cathedral, the Chiesa Sant’Agata and the Elephant Fountain, also known as Liotro. The journey then continues to your hotel near Acireale. Evening meal at the hotel. Overnight stay in Acireale.

Day 2 - Mount Etna volcanoMay 19th

Today the Mount Etna is on the agenda. Ride with the bus upon to 1,900 meters. From here you have the possibility to take the gondola. At the upper cableway station, Montagnola, take the bus to the Torre del Filosofo at about 2900 m altitude. The remaining 500 m to the summit you have to hike. Here you will be accompanied by a mountain guide. (Driveway payable locally). Mount Etna is one of the highest and most active volcanoes in Europe. The afternoon is at leisure. Dinner at the hotel.

Day 3 - Syrakus / Noto / ModicaMay 20th

All of Syracuse is a museum that will make you feel back to ancient times. In the western part of Syracuse is the Neapoli Archaeological Park located, the Greek theater, the Hieronian altar, the Roman amphitheater and the ear of Dionysius (Orecchio di Dionisio) Ear resembling. Explore the almost car-free Ortygia old town. The Cathedral, the Temple of Apollo and the cathedral, are the most beautifully restored.

Another highlight is the city of Noto. Noto is pure baroque and a jewel of Sicilian cities. Marvel at the Baroque churches and palaces before you reach the destination of today's Modica. Dinner at the hotel. Overnight in Modica.

Day 4 - Modica / Ragusa / AgrigentMay 21st

The historic center of Modica is dominated by the Sicilian Baroque, admiring the quarters and streets. Modica, like Noto and Ragusa, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Ragusas Oberstadt is linked by bridges and stairs to the medieval old town of Ibla where you will see magnificent churches and palaces. The aim of today is Agrigento. Dinner at the hotel. Overnight in Agrigento.

Day 5 - Arigent / SelinunteMay 22nd

The archaeological park Valle dei Templi (Valley of the Temples) is one of the highlights of the trip. The plant covers 1,300 hectares and is thus the largest of its kind in the world. In 1997, UNESCO declared the archaeological sites of Agrigento a World Cultural Heritage.

The temples of Hera, Concordia and Heracles are as if painted on a hill, the remains of the Temple of Zeus are monumental. The archaeological museum contains magnificent excavations.

Around noon cruise along the coast to Selinunte the venue of the Europiade. Check in at the hotel. Enjoy the rest of the day in your hotel. Half board in the hotel. 4 nights in Selinunte.

Day 6 - IVV- Europiad / Opening CeremonyMay 23rd

In the afternoon, an individual transfer by shuttle bus to Mazara del Vallo, where the opening ceremony of the 4th IVV Europiade takes place. Dinner at the hotel.

Day 6 - IVV- EuropiadMay 24th

Participation in the 4th IVV- Europiad.

Day 7 - IVV- EuropiadMay 25th

Participation in the 4th IVV- Europiad.

Day 8 - Selinunte / Trapani / Erice / PalermoMay 26th

Departure from the hotel to Trapani at around midday. The port city of Trapani was thoroughly restored only a few years ago. Admire the sea views seen between palaces and incredible church façades. The city owes its wealth to salt. Trapani’s salt pans are now natural preserves and the former foundation of its economy. The journey continues to Erice. The town is best reached by cable car. Positioned on the cliffs above the city, one has to love the town because of the view alone. The delicious almond cookies are another good reason. Palermo is the day’s final destination. Evening meal at the hotel. 2 night’s accommodation in Palermo.

Day 09 - Monreale / PalermoMay 27th

The imposing cathedral of Santa Maria Nuova of Monreale is located on the 300 meter high Monte Reale, the “Royal Mountain”, near Palermo. The cathedral is the heart of the small village of Monreale and also the largest church in Sicily. Construction of the cathedral took place between 1172 and 1176. The cathedral is one of the greatest examples of Norman architecture once prevalent in Sicily and features both Eastern Rite and Roman Catholic styles. This marvel reflects the symbiosis of Arabian, Byzantine and Norman elements. The journey then continues to the heart of Palermo. Discover the famous sights of the island’s capital such as Corso Vittorio Emanuele, Quattro Canti square with its baroque buildings, Pretoria Fountain, the impressive cathedral along with the Norman church of La Martorana as well as Palazzo Reale on a tour through the city. Use the remaining time to explore the city’s shopping streets. Evening meal at a restaurant.

Day 10 - Palermo / Cefalu / MilazzoMay 28th

The journey continues along the northern coast. Along the way you will stop to hike along the coast and enjoy the fantastic views. The picturesque historical city of Cefalu is located on a small strip of land between the sea and the cliffs. Stroll through the narrow streets. Discover the romantic squares, the Norman cathedral and the incredible mosaics. The journey then continues toward Milazzo, the gateway to the Aeolian Islands. Evening meal at the hotel. Overnight stay in Milazzo.

Day 11 - Lipari / AcirealeMay 29th

After breakfast, the trip continues by motor boat to the island of Lipari. You will discover the island on a local bus and enjoy amazing views of the other islands, cliffs, quarries, volcanic formations and the island’s amazing flora. Enjoy the relaxed island atmosphere in the town of Lipari. Take a walk up to the castle where the cathedral is also located. In the afternoon the journey continues by boat to the neighbouring island of Vulcano, formerly known as Hiera (the Holy). Seen from the 390 m high edge of the crater you will gain an impression of the amazing forces of nature once existed and continue to exist here. The effort is well worthwhile because the view is truly unique. Clothes for bathing are also essential on this day as the island’s healing mud baths are another fantastic attraction. The afternoon you will return by boat to Milazzo where the bus awaits you and will take you to your hotel in the Acireale region. Evening meal at the hotel. 3 night’s accommodation in Acireale.

Day 12 - TaorminaMay 30th

Today you can sleep in. In the afternoon we visit the enchanting city of Taormina, which Goethe once praised as the Pearl of Sicily. Enjoy the amazing panoramic view of the picturesque coast with a view from the ancient Greek theatre toward Mount Etna. Experience the thriving activity on “Corso Umberto” with its numerous historical buildings, diverse shopping opportunities and small cafés. If you are looking for a more relaxed change of pace then we recommend taking a walk through the city’s park with its wonderful view of the ever-present Mount Etna. Evening meal at a restaurant.

Day 13 - Leisure time activitiesMay 31st

The day is free for your own exploration, the last shopping or relaxing by the pool of your hotel. dinner at the hotel.

Day 14 - Return flight to LuxembourgJune 01st

In the morning transfer to the airport of Palermo and return flight to Luxembourg with Luxair. Individual home trip.

The Europiad Pass includes the following services:

Mount ETNA and ASCENT:

Above 1900 m the journey continues by cable car (Etna South). The 15 minute journey takesyou to an altitude of 2,405 m. The off-road bus in the Alpine guide await you here for the further ascent to 2,900 m. The tour continues with a guided hike along the edge of the crater. (Services/prices valid as of 03/2017)

In the event of cancellation or changes to the planned agenda/schedule of the 4th IVV - Europiad the trip costs are neither partially nor completely refundable. The trip price does not include travel cancellation insurance or any other travel insurance. All trip prizes are subject to increases in air travel taxes and fuel prices! Payment / cancellation conditions:

Free cancellation until 31st May 2017.

Cancellation after 1st June 2017 incurs a fee of 30% of the trip price.
If additional airline tickets are booked, the full price of the airline ticket is payable immediately. The final payment is due at the latest 45 days before departure to enable timely postage of the travel documents.

Cancellation charges:
After confirmation of the travel up to 90 days prior to arrival, fees of 30% of the travel price Charges to the amount of 30% of the trip price plus the ticket costs are incurred after confirmation of the trip until 90 days before departure
until 31 days before departure: 40% of the trip price
until 21 days before departure: 60% of the trip price
until 14 days before departure: 80% of the trip price
between 14 and 1 day before departure: 90% of the trip price
